Back-and-Forth Thriller Ends in 4-3 Victory
Manchester City continued their impressive start to the 2023-24 Premier League season with a convincing 5-0 victory over Newcastle United on Saturday. The win was City's third straight and moved them three points clear at the top of the table.
Raheem Sterling was the star of the show for City, scoring twice in the first half to give his team a commanding lead. Newcastle pulled one back just before halftime, but City restored their two-goal cushion early in the second half through Bernardo Silva.
Erling Haaland and Riyad Mahrez added goals late on to seal the comfortable win for City. The victory was made even more impressive by the fact that they were without injured goalkeeper Ederson. Scott Carson, in his first Premier League start since 2019, made a number of crucial saves to help preserve the clean sheet.
Newcastle, who had won their first two games of the season, have now lost two in a row. They sit in 11th place in the table, eight points behind City.
