Early Life

Born James Donald Bowman on August 2, 1984, in Middletown, Ohio, Vance is known as James David Vance. A politician and businessman, Vance rose to prominence as the author of the best-selling memoir "Hillbilly Elegy" (2016).

Political Career

After apologizing for denouncing Donald Trump, Vance adopted many of the former president's hard-line stances, including on immigration. This shift in views helped Vance secure Trump's endorsement and ultimately win the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat in Ohio.

Changing Identities

Vance has undergone several name changes throughout his life, reflecting his tumultuous upbringing. Initially named after his father, James Donald Bowman, he later adopted his stepfather's last name, Vance. In adulthood, he changed his first name to David.
