Pete Alonso's 32nd Home Run: Mets Secure 5-1 Win Over Cubs

Alonso Continues Impressive Season with Another Home Run

Pete Alonso continues to be a force to be reckoned with for the New York Mets. The first baseman launched his 32nd home run of the season in the Mets' 5-1 win over the Chicago Cubs on Saturday.

Alonso's solo shot in the fourth inning gave the Mets a 2-0 lead and extended his impressive hitting streak to 12 games. The home run also moved Alonso into a tie for fourth place in the National League home run race.

Alonso's Impressive Season

Alonso is having a breakout season for the Mets in 2023. The 28-year-old is hitting .279 with 32 home runs and 99 RBIs in 108 games.

Alonso's power numbers are particularly impressive. He is on pace to break the Mets' single-season home run record of 41, set by Carlos Delgado in 2008.

Mets Win Third Straight

The Mets' win over the Cubs was their third straight victory. The Mets are now 63-45 this season and hold a 3.5-game lead in the NL East.

The Mets' offense was led by Alonso, who finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Brandon Nimmo also had a strong game, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

deGrom Excellent Again

Jacob deGrom was once again excellent on the mound for the Mets. The two-time Cy Young Award winner allowed just one run on four hits in six innings of work.

deGrom struck out seven batters and walked none. He lowered his ERA to 1.64, which is the lowest in the National League.

The Mets are rolling right now, and Pete Alonso is a big reason why. The Mets will look to continue their winning ways when they face the Cubs again on Sunday.
